My name is Leigh Anne Fickes and I am an 8th Grade Earth Science teacher at Licking Valley Middle School in Newark, Ohio. Last fall I applied for the Tibbie Leslie Travel Grant through the Licking County Foundation. I was awarded the grant this spring. The picture on the right is when they came to my classroom to present the award. (I am the one looking excited and surprised!)
I want to go to Iceland because of its plate tectonics location on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The entire country is continuing to form from volcanic activity because these two plates splitting. Iceland is also known for its environmentally-friendly geothermal power because of its plate tectonics location. Plate tectonics and energy resources are major topics in our curriculum. I am traveling with my friend and colleague, Donna Goodfleisch. |
